Thailand has a long history of wood carving, early wood carving in Asia was done already thousands of years ago. Traditional woodcarving skills are carefully preserved in families and passed down from generation to generation. Both males and females are engaged in wood carving. Carvers carefully select the wood for woodcarving with the right degree of hardness, grain and hue for each object. Many carvers prefer to work with rosewood, ironwood, teak.
Woodcarving techniques are just the same as they where all the time since hundreds of years. The woodcarver first does a sketch onto the teak wood panel. After he uses his woodcarving knives and other tools to carve the scene out of the wood. Finally it becomes beautiful relief woodcarving.
Thai Craftsmen and craftswomen take great pride in creating hand carved sculptures and wood carvings in natural wood. These carvings take months to perfect and finalize the carvings.
