Last weeks we actively travelled across Lithuania. Actually I was rather impressed with what love people in Lithuania concern to handmade things. Of course, I knew about traditional Lithuanian crafts – a textile crafts (especially from flax and a wool), a wood and amber crafts, ceramics etc. But having arrived, have seen that also those crafts actively develop, which were not considered earlier especially developed (as it seems to me) in Lithuania - for example, a stained-glass art. The majority of these products is made for tourists, but at all do not make impression of tourist souvenir knickknacks. Look, at least on these dolls (I’m sorry for quality, photographed from a show-window):
These young ladies have been photographed from a show-window as the shop has been already closed, there was nobody to ask permissions to make a picture. There are many craft-stores in Vilnius, the majority from which are rather original. For example, look at this felting store:
Also the Textile Gallery:
Or Stained Glass Manufactura:
On my supervision in Vilnius most easier to find materials and accessories, everything that is connected with textiles (especially flax - it can be bought in metres, rags and even scraps, various colors and quantity of threads on sq. cm) . A lot of a various outline for furnish of cloths - effect of the hand crocheted lace, basically the Polish manufacture. You can find a linen fabric for counted embroideries - the prices vary, the cheapest we saw for 12 lits, the most expensive (German) - for 87 lits. The wide choice of linen fabrics in "the Flax House" - networks of the shops scattered across all Vilnius (in Kaunas we these shops too saw). From threads for embroidery – threads by Anchor, Madeira, Russian threads from S.-Petersburg, and Polish Ariadna. It is not enough kits for embroidery and their choice is poor, but you can buy printed canvas. Only in one place (the former “New department store" on 2nd floor) we have found store with many different kits for cross stitch. We have found in the same shop full the set of all accessories and colors of polymer clay, it is more we anywhere have not met a similar choice. For sell basically the Polish and Italian napkins and papers for a decoupage in Vilnius. The same history with a scrapbooking: basically manufacturers from Poland and Italy. It is possible to meet paints HOBBY for batik more often. Also knitting and crocheting yarn by Polish, German, Italian manufacturers. I can’t tell that I have been especially shaken by a variety of a choice, all is standard enough. Expanse only that to crafters, whom linen threads are necessary - are on sale in reels, the various colors and thickness of threads. We have found the most magnificent choice of the sewing goods in unknown store, in territory of the former factory - two floors of pleasure. The shop, basically, wholesale, but trades and at retail. There it is possible to find all - from fabrics and dummies, to every possible small goods. If someone has questions about concrete store or the goods – fill free to ask, I will try to answer. In some days we will place on this site a selection of photos about crafts and arts of Vilnius. |

About what shop you ask? In those shops which on a photo don't sell a fabric, but sell products from a fabric and felt (like cloths, bags, dolls etc.) There are some stores in Vilnius which specialize on sale of linen clothes, they are called the "House of flex". They are located basically in an Old city. There is one very interesting shop located near to a television center (tower) - the area is called as Karolineshki, (on territory of the former factory), where sell fabrics and accessories at wholesale prices. This shop is difficult for finding to the person who is not knowing a city, but if it is still actual for you, I will ask the address.
I would also be interested in visiting the shop near the television tower. Do you have the address
