Art metalworking existed in Russia long since, and a key player in its development was the Urals which had become in the XVIII century one of the main industrial centers of Russia.

  Occurrence of the Ural art iron casting which has received subsequently the international fame, is rather prosy: it was connected with necessity to satisfy industry and local population pressing needs. And besides this, an important factor in the artistic iron casting development was the Ural state factories production of cast-iron cannons.

Kasli factory based in 1747 had gained prominence because of its cast iron products. Figure iron casting appears at Kasli plant in 1830-1840 and is connected with the name of N. Teplyakov master. It is known that these years Teplyakov molded gravestones at Kasli factory. 

 Flowering Kasli art iron casting falls at the years 1880-1900. Just during this period the most significant works of Kasli iron casting sculpture have been let out.  Since 70th the Kasli moulding exhibition was on display of every world's fair. 

   Kasli casting, possessing magnificent art, plastic qualities, didn’t concede in their best samples to bronze. These features are explained primarily by high quality cast iron (note that pig iron smelting in Kasli was conducted on charcoal), unique natural qualities of molding sand, as well as highest skill Kasli workers: pattern makers, moulders, chasers, coloring masters. Huge value Great importance in of Kasli factory art development was a communication with talented sculptors such as E.Lansere, A.Aubert, P.Klodt, R.Bach, and N.Liberih.

 

 A pig-iron pavilion for the World Expo 1900 creation became Kasli art pinnacle. It has been executed under the project of architect E.Baumgarten. The pavilion was gathered from a great number of details which then were fastened on a special skeleton. Kasli pavilion with fabulous birds, ancient ships, fantastic fishes and flowers, attracted the public attention in Paris and received the highest award.

 Products from the Ural cast iron dispersed throughout the world, they can be seen in museums and private collections.
