Scrapbooking, as well as any art has the history developing throughout many centuries. In the Ancient Greece there was notebook form “hypomnema” for record of that its owner has heard, has read or has thought and wished to remember. In XV century in England have been extended so-called “commonplace books”, medical recipes, citations, letters, verses, texts of prayers etc were fixed there. From the beginning of 18th century in USA such albums were decorated already with color paper, labels and advertising cuttings from magazines and newspapers.

It is known that one of US presidents, Thomas Jefferson, made at leisure the albums devoted to himself, his family and country growth, pasting in them drawings, newspaper cuttings and others memorable ones. He always stored all albums in leather cover and gifted them to the grand daughters. By scrapbooking was fascinated and Mark Twain who for many years made the diaries in the form of albums and filled them with souvenirs, photos, articles about his books and performances. To make this process more pleasant and easy, in 1872 he has patented album in which thin strips of glue have been printed on pages. There were dozens versions of these albums. He even sold them through of department stores network and the story runs that so Mark Twain has earned about 50 thousand $. In general after photo occurrence in the middle of 19th century, such albums became more various – as a rule, to records and illustrations began to add photos.
In the beginning of Queen Victoria queendom (1837-1901), self-made albums became more detailed, sheets were sewed by strong threads, and covers began to be decorated by wall-paper, skin, and some of them were done even with locks, for maintenance of private life inviolability. In Russia of 18?19 centuries "albums", where visitors, friends and a hostess herself wrote notes, verses, have been extended. In such albums trifles important for keeping as a memory were pasted in. General knowledge that many Pushkin had written many love verses in young beauties albums.

Modern scrapbooking has received "rebirth" thanks to Christensen family from USA which in 1980 at the World conference of Records has presented 50 albums devoted to the family history. After an interest to their albums came, they have decided to write the book about scrapbooking art: “the Revived memoirs” (“Keeping Memories”), and also to open the first shop for scrapbooking fans in the State of Utah. In 1996 they have created the first-ever Internet site through which it was possible to order goods for albums making.
